Recommended settings in Enpass

Once you complete the set-up process, there are a few settings that when activated will enhance your experience using Enpass:

In Enpass for Windows, review the Quick Setup options, and when finished click Done:

Set up Quick Unlock

To quickly access Enpass with a PIN or biometrics, making the Master Password necessary only when launching the app:

  1. Go to Settings and select Security.
  2. In the Quick Unlock section, select and set up the Quick Unlock method of your choice.

If choosing a PIN for quick unlock, it should be at least four characters long.

Open Enpass automatically when your computer starts

To launch Enpass automatically when your computer starts up, so your passwords can be quickly accessed, either...

  1. During Quick Setup, turn on the Auto-run toggle.
  2. Go to Settings, select General, then check the Open Automatically at System Startup checkbox.

Enable and install the Enpass extension in your browsers

To add Enpass to your browsers, so you can autofill login credentials, credit card details, and identity details:

  1. During Quick Setup, turn on the Broswer Extensions toggle.
    or go to Settings, select Browser, then check the Enable Browser Extensions checkbox.
  2. Click the Install button, which takes you to  enpass.io/downloads/#extensions
  3. Follow the steps on that page for installing Enpass in your browser.

Check for Compromised Passwords

To automatically flag unsafe passwords, active Enpass's Password Audit tool:

  • During Quick Setup, turn on the Check Compromised Passwords toggle.

Use website logos as icons for your items

Website logos can be automatically saved as the icons for the item you create in Enpass. To use website icons:

  • Go to Settings, select Customize, then check the Use website icons checkbox.

In Enpass for iOS devices, you can set some settings manually.

Face ID

When enabled, quickly unlock Enpass using facial recognition. To  enable it:

  1. Go to Settings then select Security.
  2. Toggle the Face ID button.

Check compromised passwords

When enabled, Enpass will automatically flag any unsafe passwords. To enable it:

  1. Go to Settings, then select Advanced.
  2. Toggle the Check Compromised Passwords button.

Using website icons

When enabled, website logos will be automatically saved as the icons for the item you create in Enpass:

  1. Go to Settings, then select General.
  2. Toggle the Use Website icons button.

 

In Enpass for Android, review the Quick Setup options, and when finished tap Done:

Biometrics

  • When enabled, quickly unlock Enpass using fingerprints or facial recognition.

Sync with your cloud account

  • When enabled, Enpass will backup and sync your data with your selected cloud account.

Autofill

  • When enabled, Enpass will offer to autofill logins fields in apps and websites.

Check compromised passwords

  • When enabled, Enpass will automatically flag any unsafe passwords.

Sample items

  • When enabled, Enpass provides you with some sample items to help you learn about Enpass.

Using website icons

When enabled, website logos will be automatically saved as the icons for the item you create in Enpass:

  1. Go to Settings, then select General.
  2. Tap the Use Website icons check box.

Good to Know

Prerequisites for using Windows Hello to unlock Enpass

The Microsoft Store version of Enpass for Windows (v6.5.0 or later) supports unlocking with Windows Hello. To enable this feature:

  • The device must have a security processor, Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0, and it should be enabled.
  • Enpass must have a Master Password set.
  • Then you can enable Windows Hello in Enpass by going to Settings > Security > Quick Unlock.

Security in iOS when unlocking Enpass with Touch ID

When you turn on the Touch ID option in your Enpass settings, Enpass stores an encrypted version of your Master Password in the iOS Keychain. It can only be accessed by Enpass, and only when you attempt to unlock Enpass though Touch ID.

After five consecutive unsuccessful attempts to unlock Enpass with Touch ID, the Keychain copy of your Master Password is erased, and the Master Password will be required to unlock Enpass. Once unlocked, your Master Password gets saved again to the iOS Keychain.

If you turn off Touch ID in the Enpass settings, Enpass erases the Master Password from the iOS Keychain, and the Master Password will be required for all attempts to unlock Enpass. (You can read more details about this security in the Enpass security white paper).

Security in Android when unlocking Enpass with biometrics

When you activate biometrics in your Enpass settings, a biometric-authenticated random encryption/decryption key is generated in Android Keystore. This key is accessible only to Enpass. If additional fingerprints are added to the device, the next time Enpass is accessed the Master Password will be required to unlock. This process is highly secure because your saved Master Password is accessible only when it is decrypted with a key generated in Android Keystore.
